It can be healthy to fight and to have conflict within any relationship. But there are rules to how you fight, i.e. rules of engagement, and you need to know the warning signs when conflict takes a more damaging turn. Carrie Cole, PhD., director of research for Gottman, Inc. will share information about how to manage conflict using Gottman principles. Dr. John Gottman and Dr. Julie Gottman developed therapeutic interventions to calm conflict based on 40 years of scientific research. Dr. Cole will describe the destructive behaviors, known as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and share how to change these behaviors. The physiological response to a threat, called flooding, will also be discussed as well as ways to manage these responses. In addition, Dr. Cole will provide interventions to manage current, past, and ongoing conflicts.
