College Credit for Heroes (CCH), a partnership between of the Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, translates military experience and occupations into college credit at 52 participating colleges and universities, including 12 North Texas campuses. Interested veterans can submit their joint service transcripts online to be evaluated for possible credits.
Each participating college decides the degree or certificate programs in which credits can be applied. For example, the Dallas Community College District's program initially focuses on certificate programs in IT, HVAC, logistics, and welding.
Some colleges either have, or are developing, accelerated programs to make the most of the credits, such as allowing a military medic to get a nursing degree in less than one year.
CCH has generated 36,000 transcripts providing college credit since the program started in 2011.
