The Family Assistance Center’s main focus is to provide low income families and individuals with the support they need to move toward better jobs and financial self-sufficiency. Early Education and Child Care Assistance, Education, Financial and Emergency Assistance, Homeless Assistance, and Senior Services are offered through combined federal (Community Services Block Grant), utility (CPS Energy and SAWS), and general fund dollars, the Department of Human Services’ Family Assistance Centers provides help to families in San Antonio and Bexar County that are seeking to meet basic needs, such as utilities and rent, and those aiming for better employment.

VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA)
San Antonio individuals and households who earned less than $55,000 last year qualify for FREE income tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program! VITA San Antonio operates a year round tax office open to complete prior year and amended returns. Services are available by appointment only. Please call 210-431-7541 to schedule an appointment.
