Mission: Providing opportunities for people with barriers to employment. Goodwill-West Texas began in Abilene in 1983. Today, it encompasses 35 counties, serving communities from Eastland to Odessa. More than 170 employees make up Goodwill-West Texas, in the areas of donations, janitorial services, grounds keeping and retail. The mission of Goodwill-West Texas is "Providing opportunities for people with barriers to employment". With Goodwill-West Texas' employees come to realize the joy and independence that comes from finding and keeping a competitive job. As a result, quality of life is greatly enhanced in local communities. While Goodwill-West Texas is affiliated with Goodwill Industries International in name and logo, each Goodwill functions autonomously within its respective community. What is a barrier to employment you may ask? Physical disabilities and developmental, being homeless, mental or emotional disabilities, illiteracy, past substance abuse, welfare dependence, a criminal record or simply being over the age of 55. At Goodwill-West Texas, we believe that a rewarding job experience is one of the most fulfilling parts of a person's life. The ability to contribute to a community, to be a part of a corporate family and to earn a respectable wage – these are the opportunities Goodwill-West Texas provides. Jobs do more than pay the bills; jobs build lives. (read less)
