Horizon Outreach

Programs

Horizon Outreach’s programs seek to support our mission of “Giving Everyone A New Start.” Each of our programs have had a positive impact on our community and produced positive outcomes and income for our participants. Horizon Outreach is innovative in our approach to serving clients and we are working towards expanding our resources and partnerships to meet the growing needs of military families as well as families experiencing crisis due to a sudden change in their lives. We are expanding our services to increase job readiness skills of our program participants.

In addition, we are seeking additional partnership opportunities to expand services such as job readiness skills and training to our clients.

Our ultimate vision is to build an administrative office complex to house our programs and training services, and to build permanent supportive housing for families in need.

The Horizon EAGLE Program is Horizon Outreach’s hallmark Program. Since 2011, the Horizon Eagle Fatherhood program has served over 1,000 fathers by providing them with healthy parenting/relationship education as well as resources to increase their economic stability. Horizon Outreach realizes the presence of fathers in the lives of their children make a tremendous difference in a child’s ability to do well in school and to flourish socially.

Horizon Connect

This program seeks to connect homeless individuals with basic necessities’ such as: food, toiletry items and other resources. Horizon Outreach works collaboratively with other agencies to host street outreach and seminars to provide these services.

Seminars

/>

Since 2010, Horizon Outreach has actively collaborated with the Harris Health System, Department of Veteran Affairs and local service providers to host Annual Outreach seminars. These seminars are held at local community centers and our office. They serve as a portal to connect homeless families to housing, healthcare, food, clothing and other resources. Our first Outreach Seminar was held within 3 months of the organization being founded and had over 312 participants. Of this number, 121 were veterans.

Our tremendous outreach efforts earned us a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

Harris Health System has provided the following to each of these Seminars:

  • Free Medical Screenings
  • Flu Shots
  • Affordable Care Act - Healthcare Education
  • Distribution of Toiletry Items
  • Medical/Dental Van Services

/>

Other services provided:

  • Resume Writing Workshops
  • Thanksgiving Meal/Food Distributed
  • Free Haircut’s
  • Interview Clothing
  • Credit Workshops
  • Housing/Rental Assistance

Hats off to our community partners who help make this event a success each year!!!!

Horizon Educate

The Horizon Educate Program provides curriculum-based financial literacy and life-skills workshops that teach participants how to maintain financial stability.

The program educates the community on effective money management techniques.

We have educated seniors in our community on budgeting techniques that has enabled them to manage their budgets on a fixed income. In addition, for the past 4 years, Horizon Outreach has been an annual partner of Money Week Houston. This is a citywide initiative to educate the community on financial literacy.

Horizon FAITH

The purpose of the Horizon FAITH (Families Achieving Independence Through Help)program is to create pathways to permanent housing and healthy living that will increase the stability of Returning OEF/OIF, homeless veteran families and families in crisis. Since 2010, Horizon Outreach has worked collaboratively with over 28 local agencies to connect clients to families to resources.

This program allows us to provide referrals to families that are facing crisis situations. As I mentioned earlier, no family is left behind. Therefore, if Horizon Outreach is not able to assist, we will connect the family to resources through partnerships with other community partners.

Through this program we are able to assist anyone through partnerships and referrals.
