Since its inception in 1964, the San Antonio Area Foundation has been a partner in philanthropy with a growing network of dedicated individuals, families, businesses, and community groups. Working together, we strive to successfully address the charitable needs of our South Central Texas home and prepare for tomorrow’s challenges. Established through a trust created in memoriam to San Antonio business leader and philanthropist Nat Goldsmith, the Area Foundation’s mission is to help donors achieve their charitable goals for the greater benefit of the community.
Today, the San Antonio Area Foundation is one of the top community foundations in Texas. For over four decades, we have significantly enhanced the quality of life of our community by: providing outstanding service to donors producing significant asset growth strengthening community collaboration managing an exemplary grants program. From scholarships to educational programs on environmental issues, support for wounded military heroes to senior social and health care programs, the San Antonio Area Foundation understands and supports solutions to our community’s growing challenges. The San Antonio Area Foundation’s 2011 Veterans Service Academy welcomed over 90 representatives from 70 nonprofit organizations, serving the needs of military veterans and their families, for a two-day conference. Organized through the Area Foundation’s Center for Nonprofit Support with assistance from the TRIAD (Texas Resources for Iraq-Afghanistan Deployment) Fund Initiative, the conference features national and local experts in fundraising, volunteer management, partnership development, and outreach to veterans and their families.
