Southern Methodist University (SMU) is a private university and a distinguished center for teaching knowledge through academic excellence and hands-on research.
SMU'S Continuing & Professional Education (CAPE) division offers a full range of professional development and certificate programs in dozens of fields. Topics include cyber intelligence, financial planning, full stack web development, graphic design law enforcement, mobile application development, paralegal studies, project management, and technical writing. CAPE also offers personal enrichment courses such as art, foreign languages, and photography.
Our goal here at SMU CAPE is to certify all of our offered programs for use under the GI Bill. Currently SMU CAPE offers 11 certificate programs that are certified for use with veterans education benefits. Active Duty Military spouses are encouraged to use the DOD funding that is available via the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) website.
Certificate programs are offered through both in-person classes at SMU locations in Dallas and Plano, and online through distance learning. (Some classes are available only in-person, and others are available only online.) For a current list of in-person and online professional courses, please visit the SMU CAPE website, http://www.smu.edu/CAPE/ProfessionalDevelopment.
Veterans should apply directly through the SMU CAPE website. Veterans using GI Bill benefits must provide a copy of the service member's Certificate of Eligibility and DD-214.
Applicants with anything other than an honorable discharge, or with past criminal involvement, will be asked to provide a copy of their DD-214 and a description of the incident.
Interested spouses using a MyCAA scholarship should apply via the MyCAA webpage.
