Military and Veterans Success Center (MVSC)
The Military and Veterans Success Center (MVSC) at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is dedicated to serving student veterans, guardsmen, reservist and their dependents. The MVSC serves as a liaison between students receiving military educational benefits and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and assists students in the pursuit of their educational goals.
The center assists students in certifying education benefits, advocating for services, developing projects to unite the university with our local community, providing counseling services specifically for veterans, and promoting student involvement through the Student Veterans of America National Organization. We are proud to assist those who have served our country and are committed to helping military students and their dependents start or continue their education. Our ultimate goal at UTRGV is to provide an academically challenging environment to help you succeed in the next phase of your professional life.

College of Access Outreach Programs
Who We Are Now
The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley has been funded with a federal grant from Department of Education to help prepare eligible Cameron County veterans to access and pursue a program of higher education for FREE. With your support this program will continue beyond our presently approved four-year grant.
The program will:
- Provide all support services to access a post-secondary education
- Provide intensive basic skills development in those academic subjects required for a successful completion of a high school equivalency program and for admission to post-secondary programs
- Assist veterans in securing support services from other local resources, such as Veterans Affairs, state veterans services, veterans association, and other state and local agencies that serve veterans
The TRIO Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) Program at the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley is a FREE, non-credited, pre-college program federally funded with a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Post-secondary Education
The primary goal of TRIO VUB is to prepare eligible veterans to enter college, be successful in college, and to graduate from college. Students create and utilize an Individual Education Success Plan that details their education and career goals and the time frames to accomplish them. Regardless, of whether a veteran wants to complete a high school equivalency program or a bachelor's degree, individualized and personalized attention is granted to all participants.
TRIO VUB provides 125 Cameron County eligible veterans with academic instruction and support services every year. Classes are held on a continuous basis throughout the year during the fall, spring and summer semesters. Academic classes in math, composition, literature, laboratory science, and foreign language are offered in addition to academic and personal advisement, financial and economic literacy presentations, plus college and career success workshops. The progarm also refers participants to other support services on and off campus based on their respective educational and personal need.
