Veterans County Service Office

The Veterans County Service Office assists veterans and their family members in obtaining federal and state benefits they have earned through their military service. Our office is funded and operated both by Tom Green County and the Texas Veterans Commission. There is no charge for our services.  Although we are not part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and do not adjudicate claims, we can provide guidance and referrals about various programs and eligibility requirements. Our office can assist in completing VA forms and other correspondence necessary in the claim or appeal process.

• Updating insurance beneficiary designations

• VA educational assistance (GI Bill)

• Texas Hazelwood Act

• VA guaranteed homes loans
• Texas Veterans Land Board loans

• Recording military discharge documents (DD Forms 214) with the County Clerk
• Obtaining replacement military records, medals, and decorations
• Obtaining birth certificates, marriage licenses, and other documents needed to support claims

• Disagreements and appeals on VA decisions
• Requests for waivers or payment arrangements on debts to the VA
• Property tax exemptions
• Civil Service job preference
