Rural Communities & Faith-Based Partnerships - TVC Veterans Mental Health Department

The intent of the Rural Community & Faith-Based Partnership Program is to involve community & faith-based organizations in developing and implementing strategies to support the wellbeing of veterans and their families residing in the rural areas of Texas. There are 254 counties in Texas, of which 144 to 191 are considered rural, frontier, or “micropolitan”. VMHD aims to address the mounting need of services in these rural areas of Texas by engaging and involving local community & faith-based organizations.

Family Endeavors - Killeen

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, Killeen provide in-person and virtual high-quality, accessible, and integrated mental health care to Veterans, regardless of role while in uniform, discharge status, or combat experience, active duty service members (with a TRICARE referral), and military families.

Refuge Services Veteran Program

Phase I-Veteran Horsemanship Training/Therapeutic Riding:

In phase 1, the goals are to reduce anxiety, focus on the here-and-now, create safety through repetitive and predictable sequences, and stabilize rhythmic movement all while on a horse.

Phase II-Equine Assisted Psychotherapy:

In this phase, the veteran works with a licensed counselor and horses on relationships and socialization, increased problem-solving, exploring resource building, regaining control, and creating a new identity.
